About Multi-Agency Practice Reviews (MAPR)

The NSCP has a statutory duty to assess the effectiveness of the help being provided to children and families in Northamptonshire, as well as quality assure practice and assess whether multi-agency partners are fulfilling their statutory safeguarding duties. This includes joint audits of case files involving practitioners and identifying lessons learned through conducting Multi Agency Practice Reviews (MAPR).

MAPRs help us understand the effectiveness of front-line practice in protecting children and young people, how well the lessons of CSPRs and other reviews of practice have been learnt; and what the impact of locally delivered training has been. Importantly, it allows us to identify good practice and ask questions about whether things could be done differently to improve the safeguarding system.

The Partnership has established a programme of MAPR themes identified through local priorities, local reviews, inspection findings, performance data and national research.

Audits provide an opportunity to reflect on the quality of practice, learn from and build on existing good practice and identify lessons learned.

Learning from the findings of Multi-Agency Practice Revies

An important part of the audit is to share learning across the partnership. The audit findings are presented to the Quality & Governance Sub Group, and quality assured audit reports are shared with the Strategic Leads and relevant work-streams. Learning from the audits is then shared across the partnership. The Quality & Governance Sub Group is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the recommendations to ensure learns learnt are embedded in practice to improve outcomes for children.
